The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been advised to retain the current Super Eagles squad for the prosecution of this year’s African Cup of Nation ( AFCON) for the country to do well in the competition.
Mr Victor Nwangwu, a former State FA Chairman, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Awka.
NAN reports that the Eagles lost 3-4 in penalty shootout after playing 1-1 in regulation time to their Congolese counterparts in the final of the 2026 World Cup Africa playoff in Rabat, Morocco on Sunday.
” The players and the coaching crew should be retained for there is no time to start rebuilding the team now.
” Next is the Africa Cup of Nations which is coming up in few months time, the boys could spring surprise if they are not put in disarray but, encouraged to do well,” he said.
Nwangwu who attributed our loss to the Congolese national team on fatigue, called on the NFF to introduce talented youths into the team.
” You can see that most of our players are ageing and couldn’t cope with playing the over 120 minutes the game lasted,” he said.
