A viral video has emerged showing a heated exchange at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abuja’s emergency unit, where a Good Samaritan who brought accident victims to the hospital expressed frustration over alleged delays in patient care. In the footage, the individual can be heard complaining about waiting over 15 minutes for medical staff to attend to critically injured patients, claiming there was insufficient manpower and assistance to transfer patients from his vehicle to the emergency ward.
The management of FMC Abuja has responded with a preliminary statement refuting several claims made in the video. According to Public Relations Officer Obadiah N.K. Gana, the hospital had adequate medical supplies including latex gloves, sufficient resuscitation equipment and medications, and no shortage of patient transfer equipment such as trolleys and wheelchairs at the time of the incident. The hospital emphasized its commitment to treating unconscious patients and has multiple feedback channels available for patient concerns.
Following the public outcry, the Hon. Minister of State for Health & Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The hospital management has pledged to release a full report once the investigation is completed and apologized for any distress caused.
