The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has debunked allegations circulating in a viral video that portrayed its Oncology Department as poorly maintained and lacking essential facilities for cancer treatment.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Head of the Oncology Department, Dr. Oiza Ahmadu, described the claims as inaccurate and misleading. She stressed that the department remains fully operational, adequately staffed, and equipped to cater to the needs of cancer patients.
Dr. Ahmadu explained that while the hospital continuously works toward improving cancer care and upgrading infrastructure, the video presented an exaggerated picture that does not reflect the true state of the department. She assured the public that FMC Abuja consistently adheres to medical standards and has made significant efforts to ensure quality treatment and patient support.
The viral video, recorded by a patient, had called for improved welfare for health workers and enhanced facilities for oncology services. Though acknowledging the patient’s concerns, Dr. Ahmadu noted that such advocacy should not come at the expense of factual accuracy or public confidence in the hospital’s operations.
She reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to strengthening cancer treatment services, improving patient experience, and addressing genuine concerns raised by stakeholders. FMC Abuja urged the public to rely on verified information and reiterated its dedication to delivering reliable, compassionate, and professional healthcare.
