The Kwara State Government has entered into a partnership with the Global Fund, working through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), to revitalise five Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the state under the Global Fund COVID-19 Response Mechanism Grant.
The collaboration is aimed at strengthening primary health care delivery and expanding access to quality health services at the grassroots, with particular focus on underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Press Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Bukola Abdulganiyu.
According to the statement, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, made the revelation while receiving a delegation from UNICEF at her office.
Elelu said the intervention would improve health infrastructure, enhance service delivery and boost the capacity of frontline health workers in the benefiting facilities.
She noted that the revitalisation effort aligns with the state government’s commitment to strengthening the primary health care system as the foundation for effective and sustainable healthcare.
She also commended the Global Fund and UNICEF for their continued support, describing the partnership as a critical step towards building a more resilient health system capable of responding to public health emergencies.
The UNICEF delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kwara State in improving health outcomes, particularly for women and children, while emphasising the importance of collaboration in achieving universal health coverage.
The state government expressed optimism that the project would have a lasting impact on healthcare delivery and contribute significantly to improved health indices across Kwara State.
