A fire outbreak has gutted the radio studio of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, destroying equipment and property worth millions of naira.
The incident, which occurred on Monday morning within the university premises, was reportedly triggered by an electrical surge from the studio’s air-conditioning system. The blaze spread quickly through the facility before firefighters arrived.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said the fire was reported at 11:55 a.m. on September 1, 2025, and firefighters led by PFS 11 Makinde promptly responded to the call.
“When they arrived, the studio was engulfed in flames and smoke. They managed to stop the fire from spreading to other areas. No casualty was recorded, and we were able to save properties worth millions of naira,” Akinwande said in a statement on Tuesday.
He advised the public to prioritise fire safety, stressing the importance of having fire extinguishers and using them correctly to contain small fires before they escalate.
The incident comes just days after a similar fire outbreak gutted the head office of Fresh 105.9 FM in Ibadan on August 16, as confirmed in a statement by Samson Akindele, Group Head of Corporate Affairs, Fresh FM Nigeria and Yinka Ayefele Limited.
