A major disaster was averted in the early hours of Friday after a fierce fire broke out at the Bono Tank Farm, located within the Best Energy Tank Farm complex in Ibafon, Lagos.

The incident sent waves of panic through residents and industrial workers in the busy Apapa port hub, who feared a catastrophic chain reaction among the area’s highly flammable oil and gas installations.

The blaze, which erupted unexpectedly, prompted an immediate and coordinated mobilization of maritime and state emergency services. Teams from the agencies; The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene.

Thanks to their swift response, the inferno was successfully contained before it could breach adjoining tank farms or damage other critical infrastructure in the industrial zone.

”The prompt arrival and synergy of the emergency teams prevented what could have been a monumental disaster for the nation’s economic hub,” said an eyewitness working nearby.

While the immediate danger has been neutralized and the area secured, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the safety protocols at the facility to determine what triggered the outbreak. No casualties have been officially confirmed at this time.
