The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), has encouraged passengers who ferry the Ikorodu Terminal, to adhere to safety guidelines at all times.
LASWA gave the advice having confirmed a fire incident at approximately 6:45 a.m. at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu, involving the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) vessel, “Igbega Eko’.
The LASWA General Manager, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, stated this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
Emmanuel said the vessel was en route Victoria Island.
According to him, “Upon receiving the distress call, LASWA’s in collaboration with other emergency responders managed the situation.
He said, “We are pleased to report that all passengers and crew on board were evacuated safely, though four passengers suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention,”
According to Emmanuel, the authority would conduct thorough preliminary investigations into the cause of the incident in collaboration with LAGFERRY and other stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive assessment.
“Safety is our utmost priority, and we are committed to implementing any necessary recommendations to enhance fire prevention measures throughout the Lagos waterways.
“LASWA assures the public that all safety protocols remain intact and ferry operations are proceeding as scheduled”, he promised
