Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has forwarded the names of three commissioner nominees to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The submission, made on Tuesday, came barely 24 hours after the State Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, publicly announced his resignation from the cabinet.
Adamu Atiku’s resignation followed his refusal to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that several members of the state executive council had taken alongside Governor Fintiri.
The development has added a new twist to the political realignments currently shaping the state’s political landscape, as key political figures and office holders reposition ahead of future political contests.
In the letter transmitted to the Assembly, Governor Fintiri nominated Sali Idris from Maiha Local Government Area, Muhammed Suleiman from Mubi North Local Government Area, and Chubado Mohammed from Jada Local Government Area as commissioner-designates.
The nominees are expected to undergo legislative screening by the House of Assembly in the coming days, after which they may be confirmed and sworn in as members of the State Executive Council.
Political observers say the swift nomination of replacements underscores the governor’s determination to maintain stability within his administration despite recent defections and resignations.
The House is yet to announce a date for the screening exercise, but sources within the Assembly indicate that the process could be expedited to ensure continuity in governance.
The resignation of the former Works and Energy Development Commissioner and the subsequent nomination of new cabinet members highlight the ongoing shifts within Adamawa’s political structure, as party loyalties and alignments continue to evolve.
