The Federal Government has dismissed the recent U.S. Embassy travel advisory on Abuja as an alarmist generalization that misrepresents the security situation, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, stated in Abuja today. He stressed that Nigeria’s intelligence and security agencies are fully active and have effectively neutralized all credible threats to the capital.
Mr. Idris said the advisory risks causing unnecessary panic and hurting sectors like tourism and foreign direct investment. He urged the international community to consider specific threat intelligence instead of issuing broad advisories that label all government and military facilities as unsafe. He added that such blanket statements could dissuade investors and diplomats despite safeguards in place.
