The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its readiness to partner with private sector investors and foreign institutions to bridge the national housing deficit and accelerate urban renewal initiatives across the country.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, stated this on Friday, September 4, 2026, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from TEC Engineering Company (Nigeria) Limited, a subsidiary of China Railway International Group at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Belgore emphasized that Nigeria holds massive investment opportunities and remains open to collaborations that drive sustainable socio-economic growth.
He noted that addressing the country’s housing shortfall, estimated at roughly 15 million units over the next decade, requires robust Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), direct construction, and large-scale private sector participation.
“The ministry is committed to providing affordable homes through direct construction, PPPs, and collaboration with private developers,” Belgore stated.
“Companies with the capacity to deliver large numbers of houses will be important to the government’s efforts to address the country’s housing needs. We are looking at entities that want to build very large volumes of houses in Nigeria.”
Beyond housing construction, the Permanent Secretary highlighted urban renewal as a primary focal area, explaining that sustainable urban development extends to critical infrastructure including roads, water supply, drainage networks, electricity, and health facilities.
Addressing TEC Engineering’s ongoing infrastructure project in Kano State, Dr. Belgore commended the firm’s progress despite site challenges and budgetary delays, assuring them that outstanding funding provisions would be resolved.
He also encouraged the delegation to explore broader PPP models in urban infrastructure, underground utility ducts, and wastewater management.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, the representative for TEC Engineering, Mr. Jinxiang, affirmed the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality projects in Nigeria.
He disclosed that the firm has successfully executed over 80 projects across 12 Nigerian states, employing over 500 local workers and creating job opportunities for more than 10,000 residents in host communities.
In an official press statement issued following the meeting, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, reaffirmed the government’s resolve to foster technical knowledge-sharing and create an investor-friendly environment for structural development nationwide.
