The Federal Government has officially launched the 10,000 Women in Mobility Programme, a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering women economically and expanding their participation in Nigeria’s transport and mobility sector.
The programme, rolled out through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (NCCC), is designed to provide women across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory with access to mobility assets, including vehicles, tricycles (popularly known as Keke), and motorcycles. The initiative seeks to enable beneficiaries to engage in transportation, logistics, delivery services, and other mobility-related businesses, thereby enhancing their financial independence and contribution to the economy.
Speaking on Friday during the official launch and handover of the mobility assets, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, described the programme as a strategic step toward creating sustainable economic opportunities for women. She noted that empowering women with productive assets would not only improve household incomes but also promote inclusive economic growth nationwide.
According to the minister, the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda of gender inclusion and poverty reduction, stressing that women must be given access to sectors traditionally dominated by men to unlock their full economic potential.
Officials of the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation explained that the programme leverages structured consumer credit to make mobility assets affordable and accessible to women, ensuring transparency, accountability, and sustainability in its implementation.
Beneficiaries at the event expressed optimism that the programme would transform their livelihoods, open new income streams, and strengthen women’s presence in Nigeria’s growing mobility and logistics industry.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the initiative and supporting policies that promote women’s economic empowerment and participation across critical sectors of the economy.
