Flooding Anambra community
The Federal Government has issued a serious warning to Anambra State and eighteen other states across Nigeria, alerting them to heavy rainfall forecasted to cause significant flooding in 76 locations.
It advised the affected states to begin early preparation to leave to better place in order to avert the menace of flooding.
According to the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment, a five-day period of intense rainfall is expected between August 5 and August 9, 2025, which may trigger widespread flooding across these states.
The nationwide alert, released on Tuesday, urges residents, local authorities, and relevant stakeholders to take urgent precautionary measures to mitigate potential damage and ensure safety.
This warning followed devastating floods that recently struck Ogun and Gombe States on Tuesday, also affecting Lagos, Plateau, Anambra, and Delta States.
The Centre detailed the specific states and vulnerable locations expected to be impacted are Akwa Ibom: Edor, Eket, Ikom, Oron, Upenekang,Bauchi: Tafawa-Balewa, Azare, Jama’are, Kari, Misau, Jama’a,Ebonyi: Abakaliki, Echara, Ezilo,Cross River: Ogoja, Edor, Obubra,Nasarawa: Keana, Keffi, Wamba,Benue: Agaku, Buruku, Gboko, Igumale, Ito, Katsina-Ala, Ugba, Vande-Ikya,Kaduna: Jaji, Kafancha, Birnin-Gwari, Zaria,Katsina: Bindawa, Bakori, Daura, Funtua,Kebbi: Bagudo, Birnin-Kebbi, Bunza, Gwandu, Jega, Kalgo, Kamba, Kangiwa, Shanga, Ribah, Sakaba, Saminaka, Yelwa, Gauri-Banza,Kano: Bebeji, Gezawa, Gwarzo, Kano, Karaye, Tundun-Wada, Wudil, Kunchi,Niger: Kontagora, Rijau, Ringim,Plateau: Mangu,Taraba: Donga, Takum,Jigawa: Diginsa, Gumel, Dutse, Gwaram, Hadejia, Miga,Yobe: Machina, Potiskum,Zamfara: Anka,Sokoto: Sokoto, Wamakko,Borno: Biu,Gombe: Bajoga
The Federal Ministry of Environment has emphasized the need for proactive measures including the clearing of drainage systems, community awareness campaigns, and readiness of emergency response teams.
Residents in the listed areas are strongly advised to remain vigilant, avoid low-lying flood-prone regions, and adhere to official instructions to minimize loss of life and property.
