The Federal Government has issued a security advisory to Nigerians residing in the Islamic Republic of Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries following escalating military actions in the region. In a press release on Saturday signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government said it is closely monitoring the evolving and volatile situation in the Middle East. According to the statement, the advisory follows reports of military action allegedly undertaken by Israel and the United States against targets in Iran, as well as subsequent retaliatory measures by Iran on targets in some Gulf countries.
The ministry expressed concern over the heightened tensions and the potential risks to civilians, including foreign nationals living in the affected areas. “All Nigerians in Iran and affected Gulf countries are advised to remain extremely vigilant and conscious of their surroundings at all times. Avoid areas known to be strategic, military, or government installations, as these could be potential flashpoints,” the statement read. The government also urged Nigerians to adhere strictly to local security advisories and directives issued by authorities in their host countries, while maintaining regular contact with Nigerian diplomatic missions where available.
It assured citizens that Nigeria’s embassies and consulates in the region remain engaged and are prepared to provide necessary assistance within their mandate. The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians abroad and pledged to continue monitoring developments closely, advising citizens to stay informed through official channels as the situation unfolds.
