The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has debunked widespread reports claiming that the Federal Government has approved the replacement of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) traditional khaki uniform with locally made Adire fabric.

In a statement clarifying his previous remarks, the Minister emphasized that the reports misrepresented his comments regarding the promotion of local textiles and youth entrepreneurship.

While Olawande reiterated the government’s strong commitment to supporting local industries and encouraging corps members to embrace Nigerian-made products, he maintained that no official policy change has been made regarding the iconic NYSC uniform.

”There is no directive or approval to scrap the traditional NYSC khaki uniform,” the statement clarified. “The focus is on encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship among the youth, not changing the official dress code of the scheme.”

The traditional khaki uniform, paired with the crested vest, remains the official attire for corps members across the country during their orientation camp and weekly Community Development Service (CDS) activities.
