The Federal Government has announced that the Dangote Group has agreed to redeploy workers recently affected by its internal restructuring, assuring Nigerians that the move will prevent job losses and safeguard livelihoods.
Minister of Labour and Employment, speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, disclosed that following high-level discussions with the conglomerate, the management of Dangote Industries pledged to absorb the disengaged employees into other subsidiaries and ongoing projects across the country.
According to the minister, the intervention became necessary after reports emerged that some workers had been laid off in the company’s cement and refinery operations due to operational adjustments. He explained that while restructuring is part of business realities, government was determined to ensure that it did not translate into mass unemployment.
We have engaged with the Dangote Group, and they have given us their firm commitment that no Nigerian worker will be left behind. Those disengaged in one arm of the business will be redeployed to other areas where their skills are needed”.
He commended the Dangote Group for cooperating with government efforts to protect jobs, stressing that redeployment would not only provide continuity for affected employees but also ensure that critical national projects under Dangote’s umbrella continue to benefit from an experienced workforce.
The Federal Government also used the opportunity to reassure workers across the country that it remains committed to safeguarding employment, especially during ongoing economic reforms. “We will continue to dialogue with the private sector to ensure that Nigerian workers are protected even in times of restructuring”.
Meanwhile, representatives of labour unions welcomed the development but urged government to closely monitor the redeployment process to ensure transparency and fairness.
For many of the affected workers, the announcement has brought relief, ending weeks of uncertainty over their future. The redeployment is expected to begin in phases across Dangote’s cement plants, sugar refineries, fertilizer facilities, and the newly commissioned refinery project.
