The Federal Government has disbursed a total of ₦2.45 trillion to the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between March 2024 and August 2025 to support infrastructure development and security interventions across the country. The funds were released to enable state governments to rehabilitate roads and bridges, upgrade schools and health facilities, and strengthen security operations, particularly in communities facing critical development and safety challenges.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, @BwalaDaniel. According to Bwala, the intervention underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering tangible improvements at the grassroots level, where the impact of governance is most urgently needed.
“This support is helping to fix roads and bridges, improve schools and health facilities, and strengthen security operations in communities across the country where Nigerians need results the most,” he stated. Bwala further explained that the financial backing of states by the Federal Government aligns with global best practices, stressing that such collaborations are common in federal systems around the world.
He cited the United States as an example, noting that its federal government routinely provides funding to state and local governments to support key sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public safety.
The disbursement, he added, reflects the administration’s broader strategy of using cooperative federalism to drive development, enhance security, and improve service delivery nationwide.
