The Federal Government has deployed a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to process pending, new and renewal applications by Nigerians living in the country. The initiative was directed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and is being carried out by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.
The intervention team, which is scheduled to arrive in the UK on Monday, will visit designated cities across the country to conduct passport enrolment and processing. The exercise is aimed at making it easier for Nigerians in different parts of the UK to access passport services without having to travel to a central location.
The NIS said the intervention would cater for applicants with pending passport applications, first-time applicants and passport holders with less than one year remaining before expiry who wish to renew their documents. Applicants are required to present their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment.
According to the service, a detailed schedule containing the cities to be visited, dates, venues and enrolment times will be released separately. It advised applicants not to proceed to any location until the schedule is officially communicated.
The NIS urged Nigerians in the UK to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission for updates on the exercise. The intervention is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to ease and streamline passport processing for Nigerians in the diaspora.
