The Nigeria Police Force has launched a discreet investigation into the sudden death of an Arise Television journalist, whose passing has sparked shock and concern within media circles.
The journalist, identified as Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu reportedly died under circumstances that colleagues and relatives described as “unexpected and disturbing.” Sources said the incident occurred in Abuja on Sunday, prompting immediate calls for a thorough probe.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, said detectives have begun discreet inquiries to establish the cause of death. She assured the public that the investigation will be handled with professionalism and sensitivity.
“We are aware of the case and have commenced discreet investigation. The Command is determined to unravel the circumstances and will not leave any stone unturned.
The management of Arise News expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late journalist as a committed professional who contributed immensely to the growth of the station. “We mourn the passing of our colleague, whose passion for journalism and dedication to duty remain exemplary,” the station said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has urged the police to ensure transparency in their investigation and called for the protection of media practitioners across the country.
Colleagues of the deceased also paid tribute, recalling her commitment to telling impactful stories and giving voice to the voiceless.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
