The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Mrs Hulayat Omidiran, has called for the repositioning of the commission to effectively implement the Federal Character Principle and meet the evolving expectations of Nigerians.
Omidiran made the call at the opening of the commission’s 2026 Executive and Management Leadership Retreat in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti State, according to a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the FCC spokesperson, Mr Ademola Lawrence.
She described the retreat as a defining moment for the commission, saying it aimed to strengthen collaboration between the board and management, enhance institutional capacity, and develop strategies to improve the commission’s constitutional mandate.
The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, pledged support for the commission’s efforts, describing the FCC as a vital institution for promoting equity, inclusion and national unity.
Oyebanji urged participants to develop practical and innovative ideas that would enhance the commission’s effectiveness, credibility and public confidence, noting that Nigerians increasingly demanded fairness, transparency and inclusiveness in governance.
The retreat featured presentations on institutional renewal, leadership, public trust and international models of reform, with participants examining strategies to strengthen the commission’s role in promoting national cohesion.
