Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has come under fire for allegedly undermining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Barrister Gboyega Oguntuase, the former chairman of the PDP in Ekiti State, has publicly labeled Fayose a “spy” for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to journalists in Ado Ekiti, Oguntuase elaborated on why Fayose has not faced expulsion from the party, despite accusations of anti-party activities. These activities include Fayose’s refusal to support the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as well as his endorsement of Bola Tinubu from the APC. Additionally, Fayose’s recent public backing for the re-election of Ekiti State Governor Abayomi Oyebanji in 2026 has further raised alarm among PDP members.
Oguntuase explained that the party is prioritizing election victories without Fayose rather than hastily moving to suspend or expel him. He stated, “Fayose has made it clear that he is not loyal to the PDP. We are more concerned about rebuilding our party, and we don’t have time to dignify him.”
He emphasized that Fayose’s support for the opposition is unmistakable and that it would be imprudent to include him in any strategic planning for the party’s future. Furthermore, Oguntuase commended the newly appointed caretaker committee, headed by Lanre Adeleke, for creating a pathway to rebuild the PDP and prepare for upcoming elections in the state.
In closing, the former chairman remarked, “Fayose has demonstrated that he is likely to work against the party, so our focus must be on strengthening the PDP with members who are loyal and committed.”
