Each time I reminisce on the last moments of my good friend and colleague,Prince Emeka Obasi, whom I fondly called Prince,am quick to note that there should be an urgent need to convene a conference or workshop by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria(PFN) on eradicating fake pastors and their fake prophecies in the country.
Prince Obasi was certainly a victim of fake prophecy where he was said to be accused by his siblings of engaging in occultism. The brothers and sisters claimed that a certain pastor gave them a revelation alleging that he(Prince) was occultic. That he used the the fortune and luck of the family to achieve personal success. This is quite nauseating and very unfortunate. It’s emotional disturbing and sad that a man of repute;fine journalist, who was cerebral upstairs and used his contact to achieve greatness as far as wealth and recognition was concerned could be said to have taken fortunes and luck of siblings.Brothers and sisters who worked so hard or who didn’t work hard but depend on pastors to pray for their success?Your guess is as good as mine.

Before his demise,Prince suffered emotional torture and was deeply saddened based on the allegations leveled against him by his siblings some of whom he told me he assisted profoundly. His case is likened to cases of false prophecies by some unscrupulous and terrible fake pastors who are in the ministries of God or church of God simply to milk people and cause disaffection and terrible misunderstanding amongst friends and relations. What of numerous breakups in families; between husbands and wives, sons and mothers, brother and sister and the like? This is really unthinkable and worrisome. These fake prophets who hide under the cloak of ministers of God often hinted their unsuspecting and vulnerable victims that their mothers and fathers were the cause of their misfortunes and the next thing:these victims will be ostracized from members of their families. This is bad.
It would be recalled that a new brand of Pentecostalism swept across Nigeria in the 70s and 80s like wildfire. This was perceived by many as purification, thus, incinerating the large refuse dumps of old beliefs, man-made gods, ancestral worship and sundry iniquities including occultism. It was obviously a welcome development for many souls were won for Jesus Christ. This of course, contributed immensely to the nation’s overall socio-economic and political development.
A lot,no doubt, migrated from orthodox churches like Catholic, Anglican, Apostolic Methodist to pentecostal churches.Although by that time, they were few notable ones. They were really poised to winning souls and engaged mainly in evangelism and prayer which ultimately attracted many to them.
Unfortunately, today, there are countless ministries of God and some are manned by fake pastors who reel in dishing out falsehoods to vulnerable persons.Their victims are usually women and persons who are not exposed in life.
I will rather encourage people to read my colleague’s book:”Save for His Praise” .Prince Emeka Obasi is the author.Barely two years the book was unveiled to the public,he gave up the ghost. He confided in me that his ailment was mysterious and kept lamenting on the allegations of the said fake prophet that gave fake prophecies.According to him:”it’s inexplicable for my siblings to believe in such grevious allegations of using thier luck and fortunes to get rich and well- known in society.
This writer wonders why in the world of so called “born again” Christians personal efforts don’t matter. Thus, every “born again” Christian should be entitled to success and when that doesn’t happen someone, usually successful brother or sister would be accused of using thier luck and fortunes. This is very unfortunate.
It’s high-time some recognized and competent General Overseers of some notable pentecostal church es like Deeper Life Bible Church, Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM),Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Ministries and Winners Chapel with CAN members came together with a view to organizing conferences or workshops on the effects of fake prophecies and harm caused to the society
The earlier this is done the better. There ought to be massive weeding of these false and fake prophets. The body of Christ should be disturbed by this ugly situation and must come together to do something. This phenomenal rise in fake revelation must be nipped in the bud.Leaders of churches know that they have role(s) to play in this regard.
Christianity is supposed to be about love, evangelism and charity. All hands must be on deck.
