The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that passengers are permitted to record personal selfie videos at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), noting that airport officials only intervene when filming involves other passengers without their consent or captures sensitive security areas.
The clarification follows an incident at the Lagos airport involving a passenger who recorded video within a restricted security screening zone.
In a statement issued on Saturday, FAAN explained that the passenger was filming in an area where clear signage indicates that recording is prohibited.
“We understand the concerns raised and appreciate the conversation around this incident. The passenger was recording video within a restricted Security Screening area where signage clearly indicates that filming is not permitted,” the authority said.
FAAN emphasised that while travellers are free to take personal photos and videos in permitted areas of the airport, restrictions apply in designated security zones to safeguard operational integrity and passenger safety.
The authority urged passengers to remain mindful of airport regulations and to respect privacy and security protocols while using recording devices within airport premises.
