The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, to the State Headquarters following a viral video alleging the extortion of ₦2.5 million.
The action comes after a woman released a video recording claiming that the DPO and two other officers, identified as Officer Bright and Officer Usman, extorted the sum from her under the guise of securing the release of her brother from police custody.
Following a careful review of the viral clip, CP Adesola has activated the Command’s internal disciplinary machinery:
The officer identified as “Bright” has been detained at the Command Headquarters.
CSP Chidi Nwabuzor has been removed from his post as DPO Jesse pending the outcome of the probe.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the X-Squad has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.
The Command clarified that the narrator’s brother, Israel Onojeruo,20, was arrested on January 1, 2026, after a youth leader in the Jesse community handed him over to the police.
Another suspect, Okoro Desmond, reportedly confessed to selling a firearm to Israel.
The case involving the firearm has since been transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation.
The Command revealed that the removal of the DPO was not only based on this viral video but followed “a series of complaints of extortion and unprofessionalism” from various quarters.
“The Command under my leadership will not tolerate any form of extortion, intimidation, or incivility to members of the public. If found culpable, these officers will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the Police Act.” — CP Aina Adesola.
