Former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, has said Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State is at liberty to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) if he so desires.

Okechukwu, a chieftain of the APC in the South-East, made the remark while speaking to journalists in Enugu on Monday, amid growing speculation about the governor’s political future.

He stated that the party’s doors remain open to any politician committed to progressive governance and national development, regardless of their current political affiliation.

“Governor Mbah is a Nigerian citizen with the constitutional right to freedom of association. If he finds the APC’s agenda attractive, nothing stops him from joining us,” Okechukwu said.

While stressing that the party welcomes competent leaders, the ex-VON DG urged politicians to focus on delivering good governance to their people rather than being distracted by partisan wrangling.

Mbah, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, has not publicly indicated any plans to defect, but his recent engagements with top APC figures have fueled rumours of a possible switch.

Okechukwu maintained that the APC in Enugu State would continue to pursue dialogue and inclusivity to expand its support base ahead of future elections.
