Nigeria’s equities market rose on Thursday, adding N101 billion to investors’ portfolios, ending two consecutive days of losses.
Renewed interest in stocks such as Seplat Energy, Japaul Gold, Tantaliser, Secure Electronic and Access Corporation boosted sentiment.
The Nigerian Exchange market capitalisation, which opened at N157.049 trillion, rose by N101 billion or 0.06 per cent to close at N157.150 trillion.
Similarly, the All-Share Index increased by 0.06 per cent or 155.03 points to 242,378.13, from 242,223.10 on Wednesday.
The Year-to-date return climbed to 55.76 per cent.
Market breadth, however, closed negative, with 30 losers against 23 gainers.
Aradel Holdings and RT Briscoe led the losers’ chart by 10 per cent each, finishing at N1,413 and N8.10 per share respectively.
Champion Breweries shed by 9.91 per cent, settling at N10, International Breweries dipped by 9.80 per cent, closing at N9.20 and Computer Warehouse Group fell by 9.28 per cent, ending the session at N17.60 per share.
On the gainers’ chart, Seplat Energy led by 10 per cent, closing at N14,907.80, Japaul Gold followed by 9.83 per cent, settling at N2.57, while Tantalizer grew by 8.29 per cent, finishing at N3.79 per share.
Also, Secure Electronic Technology increased by 7.94 per cent, ending the session at 68k and Acces Corporation advanced by 5.66 per cent, closing at N28 per share. Market activity strengthened during the session, with total volume traded rising by 161.79 per cent to 1.40 billion shares, valued at N27.14 billion across 46,218 deals.
Fortis Global Insurance led trading volume with 1.03 billion shares, accounting for 73.69 per cent of the day’s total volume. Aradel Holdings recorded the highest value traded at N5.34 billion, representing 19.68 per cent of total value.
