Premier League Champions, Arsenal, came from a goal down to defeat Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates, while Chelsea thrashed Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Leeds United frustrated champions Arsenal during the first 45 minutes with stifling defending and took the lead 10 minutes after the break, but goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Bruno Guimareas gave Arsenal all three points.
Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta, praised Leeds United for their performance.
“They are extremely well-organised, they are very physical, they are committed in everything that they do,” he said.
Arteta added that Leeds United are a threats especially when you don’t take your chances against them.
“When you don’t finish the actions, and we hit some great areas in the first half to have much more end product than we did, and we lost the ball just before the last action, and when that happens and they had moments to run, they are a threat,” Arteta explained.
At the Stamford Bridge, Chelsea put 5 goals passed Bournemouth with new signing Jordan Henderson scoring a brace.
Striker Joao Pedro scored a brace too and a Morgan Rogers strike completed a 5-1 demolition of struggling Bournemouth.
Chelsea Manager Xabi Alonso singled out midfielder Moses Caicedo for his team’s dominant performance.
“With him, we have a better midfield area and when you are better in the middle, you have a more complete team and something to build around.
“I am so happy that Moi is feeling better because he is going to be a key player for us. We knew that and we have seen it today,” he added.
At Old Trafford, Tottenham Hotspur held Manchester United to a 1-1 in spite of finishing the game with a man down.
Tottenham’s Bentancur was sent off in the 78 minute but Dominic Solanke’s goal in stoppage time cancelled Bryan Mbeumo’s 73rd minute strike for United.
The draw leaves Manchester United with 6 points after 6 games.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, said he is massively disappointed with the result.
“Massively disappointed with the result, for sure. We just couldn’t find a way to get ourselves into the game.
“The boys were trying to do the right things but it wasn’t quite there,” he said.
