Pro-democracy activist and AAC presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore has been arrested by the DSS, Daily Query can report.
Announcing the development on his official social medial page, on Sunday (today, September 15), human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju wrote: “Breaking: Sowore arrested by jobless and lawsless Nigerian government for calling for #EndBadGovernance protest”
Sowore also wrote on his X -handle: “I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA to the MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching the Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they told me they had orders to detain me. This is not unexpected because I have always known that it is part of the broader clampdown by the fascist regime on dissent and their fear of the upcoming #FearlessINOctober revolt. In case this becomes another prolonged and protracted detention, I urge our citizens to ensure they ALL stop tyranny by all means acceptable and necessary, by engaging in the planned series of direct actions slated for October 1st and beyond.”
Sowore, the courageous publisher of Sahara Reporters online platform, has been in the forefront of protests against bad governance in Nigeria.
One of his most notable contributions to this cause is his involvement in various advocacy movements, including the #EndBadGovernance protests, which gained traction alongside the #EndSARS protests.
Sowore’s activism is rooted in his consistent push for systemic change in Nigeria’s governance structure, tackling issues like corruption, police brutality and the disregard for human rights.
