The Plateau Government has warned that the curfew earlier imposed on Jos-Bukuru metropolis has not been relaxed.
Mr Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA) to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, said in a in a statement yesterday (Wednesday, August 14) in Jos, in reaction to “a fake news making the rounds on social media that the curfew had been revised to between 6:00a.m. and 10:00 p.m”, that free movement within the affected areas remains between 7:00 a.m and 7:00 p.m.
”Government wishes to clarify that there is no further relaxation of the curfew currently in force,” the statement read, in part.
”Contrary to a false statement being circulated by certain individuals, the curfew remains as previously announced.
”Residents are hereby reminded that movement is permitted only between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., as directed by the governor.
” The public is advised to disregard any misleading information and to adhere strictly to the stipulated curfew hours,”he said.
The Plateau State government had on Sunday, Aug. 4, imposed a 24-hour curfew following the looting of public and private assets by some hoodlums in Jos North Local Government Area during the hunger protests.
The miscreants had hijacked the nationwide protest to perpetrate the criminal acts, forcing the government to act quickly to forestall further destruction of lives and property.
However, the 24-hour curfew was later reviewed, based on improved security in the affected areas, reflecting the current timing for free movement.
