According to the court filing and supporting affidavits, El-Rufai claimed he was told his freedom depended on several conditions outlined by ICPC officials.
He alleged that ICPC officers, acting under the authority of Chairman Musa Adamu Aliyu, directly told him that he must stay away from 2027 politics as a condition for his release.
The complaint stated that he was pressured to refrain from participating in any political process or association.
His legal team asserted that he was repeatedly warned that persisting in political involvement would lead to a prolonged stay behind bars.
El-Rufai argued these demands were an unlawful attempt to force him to abandon his constitutional rights.
This revelation is coming after the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, had urged President Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
He is seeking ₦1 billion in damages for wrongful confinement, abuse of office, and breach of fundamental rights.
The ICPC has denied seeking fresh extensions for his detention and maintains that his remand is authorized by a court of law in accordance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
As of March 18, 2026, El-Rufai remains in ICPC custody under a valid remand order expiring on March 19, with his formal arraignment scheduled for April 23, 2026.
