Former Kaduna State Governor,  El-Rufai appeared at the Kaduna State High Court under heavy security for his ongoing trial involving allegations of fraud and abuse of office. However, he did “make waves” by confirming his political shift while walking into the courtroom.

El-Rufai has been named the convention planning committee alongside other political heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso. This has fueled rumors that the ADC is becoming the launchpad for a massive opposition “mega-party” to challenge the APC in 2027.

So, his transition from the APC to the ADC is now essentially “official” in the eyes of the public, even as he battles these legal charges from custody.

While he was there for legal reasons, he essentially confirmed his political move on camera. He was overheard asking an associate, “So tomorrow is our convention, right?” to which the aide replied, “God willing.” This confirmed his involvement in the ADC national convention.

The ADC is holding its National Convention on April 14th. El-Rufai isn’t just joining; he is a member of the 126-member Convention Planning Committee, which includes other heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Analysts view this as the official formation of a “mega-opposition” front to challenge the APC in 2027. Tomorrow is a massive day for him. While the ADC holds its convention, the Federal High Court in Kaduna is also scheduled to rule on his bail application.

He has been in and out of custody since returning from Egypt in February, briefly being released on compassionate grounds to bury his mother before returning to detention.

It’s a high-stakes moment for him—balancing a potentially career-ending legal battle with the launch of a new political movement that could reshape Nigerian politics.
