The Ekiti State Council of Elders has congratulated Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his re-election following his victory in the June 20 governorship election, describing the outcome as a reflection of the confidence reposed in his administration by the people of the state.
The council also commended the governor for what it described as an impressive performance during his first term, expressing confidence that his second tenure would consolidate on the gains already recorded and accelerate the development of Ekiti State.
The position of the elders was contained in a congratulatory letter titled “Congratulations on Your Re-election,” dated June 25 and jointly signed by the council’s President, Prof. Joseph Oluwasanmi, and Secretary, Elder Niyi Ajibulu.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Monday, Ajibulu said members of the council were pleased with the governor’s achievements in office and believed that his re-election provided another opportunity to deepen development across the state.
According to him, the elders acknowledged the progress recorded under Oyebanji’s administration in different sectors and urged him to sustain the momentum throughout his second term.
He said the council’s message was not only to congratulate the governor on his electoral success but also to encourage him to remain focused on policies and programmes that would improve the welfare of the people.
The letter read in part, “The elders are delighted that your first term witnessed remarkable developments.”
It further stated, “We are confident that your second term will reaffirm your commitment to the development of the state.”
The council noted that the governor had demonstrated purposeful leadership during his first four years in office, earning the trust and support of the electorate through governance that prioritised the needs of the people.
According to the elders, the administration’s developmental initiatives across various sectors contributed significantly to the confidence reposed in the governor by Ekiti residents during the governorship election.
They described the victory as an opportunity for continuity, expressing optimism that the administration would build on existing achievements while introducing new initiatives that would further transform the state.
The elders also urged Governor Oyebanji to continue promoting inclusive governance by carrying all segments of society along in the implementation of government policies and programmes.
They encouraged the governor to sustain his engagement with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, women and other stakeholders to ensure that development reaches every part of Ekiti State.
The council further appealed to residents to continue supporting the governor’s administration, stressing that sustainable development requires cooperation between the government and the people.
According to the elders, unity, peace and collective responsibility remain essential ingredients for the state’s continued growth and prosperity.
They expressed hope that the governor’s second term would witness greater investments in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment and economic development.
The council also prayed for divine wisdom, strength and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he prepares to begin another four-year term in office.
It expressed confidence that his administration would continue to pursue policies capable of improving living standards and positioning Ekiti State for greater economic and social progress.
Governor Oyebanji secured re-election in the June 20 governorship election, paving the way for another term in office after a first tenure that attracted commendations from several stakeholders within and outside the state.
The endorsement by the Ekiti State Council of Elders adds to the growing list of congratulatory messages the governor has received following his electoral victory, with supporters expressing optimism that his second term will consolidate on the achievements of the first and deliver greater dividends of democracy to the people of Ekiti State.
