The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the nationwide deployment of tactical assets to ensure the safety of lives and property during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, reinforcing security across the country at a time of heightened public movement and festivity.

The directive, announced on Friday, underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintain peace and order as millions of Muslim faithful mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Alongside the operational measures, the police chief also extended warm felicitations to Muslims nationwide, congratulating them on the successful completion of the fasting period and the arrival of Eid-el-Fitr.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the Inspector-General instructed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to activate comprehensive security frameworks tailored to their respective jurisdictions.

According to the statement, the security arrangement involves the strategic deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and specialised units to key locations. These include Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, transportation hubs, and other critical infrastructure expected to witness large gatherings during the celebrations.

The mobilisation of the Special Intervention Squad forms a central component of the plan, complemented by conventional police personnel tasked with routine patrols and rapid response duties. The initiative is aimed at preventing potential security breaches, managing crowds, and ensuring swift intervention in case of emergencies.

The Inspector-General emphasised the importance of vigilance and coordination among security agencies, urging officers to remain professional and proactive in the discharge of their duties. He also called on members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement personnel and report any suspicious activities, stressing that community participation remains vital to effective policing.

Eid-el-Fitr, one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar, typically sees increased travel, commercial activities, and social gatherings across Nigeria. As such, security experts often highlight the need for robust measures to mitigate risks associated with large crowds and heightened movement.

The police leadership expressed confidence that the proactive deployment would create a safe environment for citizens to celebrate without fear, reaffirming the Force’s dedication to protecting lives and maintaining public order.

As preparations for the festivities reach their peak, the nationwide security presence is expected to provide reassurance to residents, ensuring that the spirit of Eid is observed in peace, unity, and safety across the country.
