Nkwazema
STANLEY Nkwazema, a seasoned journalist and strategic communication expert, has been elected President of the Egbu Town Union (ETU) Abuja Chapter in a closely contested election held at the association’s monthly meeting. Nkwazema’s victory brings an end to the previous executive’s two-term leadership.
The Egbu Town Union represents the people of Egbu Kingdom, a distinct community in the South East region, east of the Niger. Egbu is famous for its unique, undisputed traditional stool.
Nkwazema, also an editorial board member of THE NEWSHAUS won decisively over his opponent, Mr. Chukwu Aribeana, who received only three votes.
The election, presided over by three former Presidents (Emeritus), Dr. Kemji Ajoku, Mr. Obinna Ajoku SAN, and Sir Henry Eteama (retired Director of the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics), saw a record turnout of members, the highest since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Treasurer: Chiedo Ohaegbulam

Following the election, President Emeritus Obinna Ajoku swore in the newly elected officers, urging them to uphold the Egbu Ancient Kingdom’s high standards and prioritise the reintegration of inactive members back into ETU activities.
Sir Eteama also advised the new leadership to revisit and incorporate the addendum to the amended constitution into the Union’s Bye-laws, which should reflect current economic realities.
During his acceptance speech, Nkwazema thanked the outgoing executive and all members for their support.
He emphasised the importance of active participation in meetings, encouraging members to invite both returning and new attendees.
Sir Eteama stressed the importance of registering children aged 18 and up, encouraging their participation in the promotion of Egbu, the source of the Otamiri River and the kingdom where the English Bible was translated into Igbo.
The new executive will be formally introduced to the community at the upcoming Mgbugbuzo festival in Egbu-Owerri on 16 August 2025, at Ogodo Field.
Hon. Chimdi Amadi, former President of the Egbu Town Union, Abuja Chapter, congratulated the newly elected President and urged Nkwazema to lead an inclusive government that values every voice and promotes community unity.
Amadi also encouraged him to follow previous leaders’ positive administrative examples, prioritise integrity and transparency, and reject divisive tendencies.
“Let your tenure be remembered as one that brought together brethren, inspired development, and reignited the spirit of brotherhood among all Egbu indigenes in Abuja,” Amadi said.
