The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), wanted on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, over fresh allegations involving the receipt of stolen property.

The official wanted notice was published on the anti-graft agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle and public media outlets by the Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale.

The notice featured a photograph of the 61-year-old Biu, Borno State indigene, urging the public to assist law enforcement agencies with credible information regarding his current location.

”The public is hereby notified that Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Receiving Stolen Properties,” the statement read.

The commission requested anyone with useful information on Maina’s whereabouts to contact the EFCC Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, or any of its zonal commands located in Lagos, Kano, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Benin, Ilorin, Makurdi, Sokoto, Uyo, Gombe, and Abuja.

While the EFCC has not yet released specific details regarding the nature or monetary value of the alleged stolen property, the notice marks a dramatic turn of events for the former pension boss.

Maina previously served time at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja after being convicted on November 8, 2021, by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja. He was sentenced to eight years in prison for laundering over ₦2 billion in pension funds.

That conviction was affirmed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja in May 2023. He was released early in February 2025 following statutory remission for good conduct granted by the Nigerian Correctional Service.

In addition to this new wanted notice, Maina is facing an ongoing 9-count charge alongside Ann Igwe Olachi before Justice Abubakar Kutigi at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja.

The charge alleges the receipt of ₦738.6 million in stolen funds connected to pension biometric enrolment contracts. During proceedings in February 2026, the trial court cautioned that Maina’s bail could be revoked due to persistent delays in the case.

As of press time, neither Maina nor his legal team has released an official statement regarding the EFCC’s fresh declaration.
