The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has expressed confidence that Nigeria can overcome corruption if citizens embrace transparency and accountability
Speaking at the 12th Annual Conference of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) held in Effurun, Delta State, Olukoyede, represented by Mr. Williams Oseghale, Assistant Commander and Head of Public Affairs at the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate, emphasized the need for collective action in the fight against corruption.
The event, sponsored by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), a private firm contracted by the federal government for pipeline security, provided a platform for the anti-graft agency to engage with communication experts on promoting integrity.
In his keynote address, Olukoyede stressed that achieving good governance requires citizens to uphold transparency, accountability, and adherence to due process.
“Many of Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges—including unemployment, insecurity, poverty, and poor health outcomes—are rooted in corruption and the misuse of public resources,” he said
He lamented that Nigeria is often perceived as a country plagued by systemic corruption and impunity and called on the media to take a more active role in reshaping this image through sustained advocacy and public awareness campaigns.
