The Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education is repositioning the state’s institutions for optimal effectiveness and efficiency in implementing the current administration’s developmental agenda with the aim of creating a brighter future and equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in the digital economy.
Commissioner For Tertiary Education, Mr Tolani Sule, who stated this while giving an account of activities of the Ministry in the last one year, at Alausa, Ikeja, said “the government is enhancing digital learning by exploiting areas of collaboration and also participating in exchange programmes to promote its educational systems.
He stated that “In the year under review the government had rehabilitated thirty libraries in secondary schools, harmoniized disparities in salary structure of State-owned universities, initiated the process of transmuting the Lagos State University College of Medicine into a stand alone University of Medical and Health Sciences, to bridge existing gap in health personnel”.
Mr Sule said “the state’s tertiary institutions including Lagos State University, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State University of Science and Technology had continued to achieve their strategic goals, building capacities of staff and participating in collaborative research projects among other initiatives”.
The Commissioner said the government had been promoting and investing massively in infrastructural development, digital literacy and skills, information technology, innovations, sporting activities, and accreditation of academic and professional programmes by relevant bodies among other initiatives.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, said the state government had done so much in the education sector and would continue to give priority to the sector.
