The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has accused a former national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, of owing the party substantial debts running into over N150 million.
The party said the alleged liabilities stem from loans and accumulated membership dues spanning several years when Odigie-Oyegun served as the national chairman of the APC. It added that repeated efforts to recover the funds had so far yielded no response from the former party leader.
This position was contained in a statement signed by the Edo State Chairman of the APC, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, and made available to journalists on Friday.
According to Tenebe, the party had issued several official demands to Odigie-Oyegun for the settlement of the debt, but all such efforts were allegedly ignored. He noted that the APC, as a responsible political organisation, was compelled to make the issue public in the interest of transparency and accountability.
The statement read in part: “All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State wishes to inform the public that as a law-abiding, people-centred political organisation, we have formally demanded the settlement of debts owed by the National Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.”
The Edo APC chairman maintained that the party would continue to pursue all legitimate means to recover the funds, stressing that accountability remained a core value of the APC.
