The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has officially commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified citizens from its member states, including Nigeria, to apply for more than 30 job openings across its various institutions.
In a notice published on its official careers portal on Thursday, the regional bloc said the recruitment initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the implementation of its sectoral programmes and deepen institutional capacity across the sub-region. The move, according to ECOWAS, is designed to attract skilled professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the organisation’s mission of fostering economic integration, peace, and sustainable development in West Africa.
The statement urged interested candidates to submit their applications through its official recruitment website, stressing that the process would be transparent and merit-based. It also highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusiveness, encouraging applicants from all member states to take advantage of the opportunity.
A significant number of the advertised roles are based in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, which hosts several ECOWAS institutions and offices. Among the positions listed are Office Aide, Programme Assistant, Nurse, Protocol Assistant, and Documentation and Archives Assistant. Other roles include Office Manager (Bilingual Secretary), Junior Accountant (Disbursements), Accountant positions, Legal Officers, Political Advisor, and various Principal Officer roles.
In addition, the organisation is seeking qualified candidates for more senior and specialised positions such as Registrar, Head of Division (Library and Documentation), and Head of Hansard. These roles are expected to play critical parts in supporting ECOWAS’ administrative, legal, and legislative functions.
Observers say the recruitment drive comes at a crucial time as ECOWAS intensifies efforts to address regional challenges, including economic instability, security concerns, and political transitions in parts of West Africa.
