A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on opposition figures to cease using Nigeria’s economic challenges as political ammunition against President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, Osun State, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Oyintiloye stressed that constructive encouragement rather than constant attack is required to steer the nation out of its current financial distress.

Oyintiloye reminded political opponents that President Tinubu was not the architect of the structural economic challenges facing the country and cannot resolve long-standing issues overnight.

He cautioned political figures against using the ongoing hardship as a campaign weapon ahead of the 2027 general elections, arguing that no opposition candidate seeking the presidency has demonstrated a superior track record or capacity.

While defending the administration’s policy trajectory, the APC chieftain urged President Tinubu to intensify interventions, review existing social safety nets, and strengthen economic cushions for vulnerable Nigerians.

Addressing reporters, Oyintiloye highlighted that while the impact of economic reforms, such as fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification, has increased household expenses, the structural shifts are essential for long-term growth.

”It would be unwise to weaponise the current economic challenges, which the President is actively working to address, against his presidential ambition,” Oyintiloye stated. “The President needs the understanding, patience, and prayers of Nigerians as he implements key reforms designed to reposition our economy.”

He acknowledged the severe economic realities hitting citizens across the country but reiterated that reverting to unsustainable economic models would only delay a inevitable crisis.

He added that resources saved from subsidy removals must continuously be channeled into tangible welfare programs and productive investments to alleviate public hardship.

Expressing confidence in the administration’s direction, Oyintiloye predicted that President Tinubu’s economic policy foundation would yield visible results across major sectors ahead of the 2027 general election.
