The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has felicitated Christians in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration, urging them to reflect on the virtues of love, humility, sacrifice and compassion as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Oyebanji said the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which form the essence of the Easter celebration, remain the greatest sacrifice for the redemption of mankind and should be cherished and remembered by all Christians. He noted that the season is not only a period of celebration but also a time for deep reflection on the values of selflessness and service to humanity.

The governor made the remarks in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Saturday. In the statement, the governor congratulated Christians in Ekiti State, Nigeria and across the world for witnessing another Easter celebration, describing the occasion as a symbol of hope, renewal and victory of life over death.

According to Oyebanji, the Easter story remains a powerful reminder that sacrifice, faith and perseverance ultimately lead to victory and new life. He urged Christians to emulate Christ’s virtues of humility, love, perseverance and compassion in their daily lives, stressing that these values are necessary for building a peaceful and prosperous society.

“I wish all the people of Ekiti State and Christians across the country and other parts of the world, happy Easter as we celebrate God’s greatest sacrifice to mankind,” the governor said in the statement. He added that the season should inspire Nigerians to show more love to one another, especially the poor, the vulnerable and those going through difficult times.

Oyebanji also used the opportunity to call on residents of the state to continue to support his administration’s development programmes, noting that his government remains committed to improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and job creation in the state. He said the government would continue to implement policies and programmes that would improve the standard of living of the people.

The governor stressed the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence among residents of the state, regardless of religious or political differences. He said the teachings of Jesus Christ emphasise peace, love and forgiveness, adding that Nigerians must embrace these values now more than ever as the country continues to face social and economic challenges.

He urged Christians to use the Easter period to pray for Ekiti State and Nigeria, especially for peace, security, economic stability and good governance. He expressed optimism that with unity, faith and collective effort, the country would overcome its challenges and emerge stronger.

Oyebanji also assured the people of Ekiti State that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of the people and ensure that development reaches all parts of the state. He called on citizens to remain law-abiding and continue to support government efforts aimed at transforming the state.

The governor concluded his message by wishing Christians a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration and urged them to remember the true meaning of the season by showing love, kindness and compassion to one another.
