An explosion suspected to be a bomb has destroyed a newly constructed bungalow at Umuneke, Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

Sources said the incident occurred on Sunday – yesterday, January 12 – morning at about 1 am, causing panic in the area, as some residents scampered for safety in neighbouring communities.

It was gathered that the affected house was just recently completed but nobody had moved as at the time of the incident.

“We just heard a massive sound, which was heard in other villages. When we gathered the nerve to check the cause of the sound, we saw the newly completed bungalow in rubles.

“The painful part is that the couple worked hard to build their house and were planning to move in February. We still don’t know what caused the explosion but it doesn’t look ordinary.

“We slept last night with one eye open but we’re hoping to get information on what really happened. Hopefully when the owners come, they will authorise proper inspection of the house,” a source said.

The State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye could not be reached for comment as he was not answering his phone calls.
