The Super Eagles did exceedingly well. They won very convincingly with a good performance.
Victor Osimhen was outstanding in delivering the goods from the few chances in the match.
For the first time in a long while, Nigerians did not suffer even an ounce of tension or pressure.
Benin Republic did not stand a chance in hell to have won tonight’s match. They did not create a single clear chance in front of the Nigerian goal. Gernot Rohr was completely demystified. He had no answer. The Cheetah’s simply could not roar.
The Super Eagles totally outplayed them in all departments.
The problem had always been with the Eagles not performing to expected high standards. That tide may have turned with the psychological boost of this victory.
My friends and I feasted and celebrated the victory.
Beyond that, I also celebrated Osimhen’s hat trick. I still have to confirm if it is his first or second. Either way, a hat trick is always special.
Coincidentally, I also scored my hat trick playing in an all-white outfit of the Green Eagles against the same Cheetahs of Benin in Lagos in February of 1977!

The Super Eagles have created a new future with this victory. They will now embark on a series of matches that can still take Nigeria to the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
