Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have dealt a severe blow to banditry in northwest Nigeria after intercepting a major logistics network and seizing a massive cache of military-grade weapons.
​The breakthrough occurred during a high-stakes, targeted operation conducted on Thursday in the Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
​Acting on highly sensitive and actionable intelligence, DSS tactical teams monitored and tracked a key suspect, identified as Muhammad, as he attempted to navigate through Kano in transit. Operatives closed in on the suspect, effectively cutting off a critical supply corridor before the lethal cargo could reach its final destination.
​”This operation successfully disrupted a vital lifeline for bandits operating in the Northwest,” a security source privy to the development stated. “The precision of the intelligence prevented these military-grade weapons from hitting the field, which would have worsened the security challenges in the region.”
​With the supply chain compromised, the DSS has launched a comprehensive investigation to trace the origin of the weapons and unmask other individuals involved in the syndicate.
​Security analyst Mubarak Aliyu noted that Kano has increasingly become a transit hub for illicit logistics. The seizure prevents immediate mass casualties in vulnerable communities.
Security agencies are reinforcing surveillance along known transit corridors linking North-Central and Northwest states.
​Muhammad remains in custody and is assisting security agencies with ongoing investigations.
