Her actions would have affected the entire Igbo race
Her private decision to disparage Nigeria daily
Would have been cited for why the Igbo cannot be trusted
Her decision to denounce Nigeria totally would have been used to justify why Igbo must be watched, punished and marginalized
In bedrooms , behind closed doors, noble people would have told their children civil war fables about the Igbo
In public, she would have been castigated like a thief. All the hatred coughed out and spat on her and on Peter Obi .
If Kemi Badenoch were Igbo, her acidic public criticism of Nigeria could have been weaponized to reinforce existing stereotypes or historical grievances against the Igbo and cast slurs
Kemi is not Igbo so her sins have no ethnic dimension
She comes from a tribe that doesn’t have to prove its loyalty to the country
So her perceived sins are private and no leader or commoners from her tribe will suffer a vicarious liability for her anti Nigerian position
That uneven application of ethnic accountability aside
It’s instructive that a young lady left Lagos after secondary school and settled in England and now claims ownership of her dear England
And England allowed her not just to vote but to contest elections and become the leader of perhaps the greatest party in the UK.
That’s the lesson.
