Governor Seyi Makinde has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to refrain from creating political unrest in Oyo State. This plea follows a recent remark by Wike, in which he threatened to “ignite a fire” and provoke a political crisis in any state where Governors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were pushing for Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara to take control of the party’s structures.
Governor Makinde made his appeal on Saturday, September 28, during a reception organized in Port Harcourt by the Ijaw World Congress in honor of Wike. In his speech, Makinde praised Wike for his remarkable achievements as the former Governor of Rivers State and explained that the reception was a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the state.
Makinde stated, “I came all the way from Oyo to show solidarity with my brother and today’s celebrant, Nyesom Wike. When I arrived in Rivers on Friday, I told him I brought a peace offering because he had been boasting about setting some states on fire. I pleaded with him not to set Oyo State ablaze.”
The Governor went on to commend Wike’s accomplishments during his eight-year tenure as governor, noting the numerous projects he had seen firsthand during his visit.
He added, “On behalf of my fellow governors and past governors present here today, I want to acknowledge that you have done exceptionally well for your people. Your legacy of development is evident all over Rivers State.”
Makinde’s plea highlights his desire to maintain political stability in Oyo State amidst ongoing tensions within the PDP, as well as his recognition of Wike’s influence and leadership in Nigerian politics.
