The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reassured members of the diplomatic corps of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for their operations in Abuja.
Wike gave the assurance during the Saint Patrick’s Day reception and the official inauguration of the new Embassy of Ireland at the European Union Complex in Abuja, an event that drew members of the international community and top government officials.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr
Lere Olayinka, the minister conveyed the administration’s resolve to strengthen Abuja’s status as a preferred destination for diplomatic engagement and international cooperation.
He emphasized that the government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is actively implementing measures to transform the nation’s capital into a globally competitive city that meets international standards.
“We owe you a duty to make sure that we create the right environment for you to work and thrive. I want to assure you that we want to make Abuja one of the best capital cities in the world,” Wike stated.
The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to improve infrastructure, security, and overall urban development in Abuja, aimed at enhancing investor confidence and strengthening diplomatic relations.
The event also underscored Nigeria’s growing ties with Ireland and the broader European community, as the newly opened embassy is expected to further deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, and governance.
