Dr Dexter Akin-Alamu has emerged the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Aug.16 by-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State.
Akin-Alamu emerged unopposed following the withdrawal of his co-aspirant, Mrs Olaide Aderinto, during the party’s primary held on Saturday at the ADC Secretariat, Mokola, Ibadan.
The primary election was supervised by Mr Emeka Igwu from ADC National headquarters, Abuja, and observed by INEC officials led by Mr Omishile Kehinde, as well as security operatives.
The delegates unanimously endorsed Akin-Alamu as their preferred candidate through voice vote after Aderinto announced her withdrawal.
In his acceptance speech, Akin-Alamu commended Mrs Aderinto’s sacrifice and assured party members of total commitment to securing victory for ADC in the forthcoming election.
He expressed appreciation to the ADC electoral committee, state executives led by Alhaji Yinka Olona, Mr Oluyemi Abiola, and Bimpe Adelowo.
The ADC candidate also appealed to party members to unite and mobilise for electoral victory, promising to sponsor a social welfare bill for citizens’ benefit if elected.
Earlier, Aderinto said her withdrawal was in the party’s interest and pledged full support for Akin-Alamu in the by-election.
The INEC official, Omishile, confirmed their presence as observers and commended ADC for complying with all stipulated electoral guidelines during the primary.
