The Northern Youth Assembly (Majalisar Matasan Arewa) has accused the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibril, of plotting to manipulate the passage of the contentious tax reform bills.

The Assembly, an umbrella body of youths from the 19 Northern States, frowned at what they described as  Senator Jibrin’s systematic plots to ensure the scaling of the bills to their second reading.

In a letter signed by Ali Mohammed Idris and Abdullahi Garba, President and Secretary of the Assembly, they maintained that the reform bills are evil and would gravely undermine the economic and commercial prosperity of the North.

In their letter to the distinguished Senator, dated 29th November, they averred that the tax bills put forth by the President Tinubu administration represent the highest display of insensitivity to the economic and commercial plights of the people of Kano State and the entire Northern Nigeria.

The northern youth group regretted that while the zone is today beset with a barrage of critical issues such as shortage of electricity, insecurity, poverty, infrastructure deficits and unemployment, the Deputy Senate President who is expected to help to address these issues an elected represented of the zone, appears bent on embarking on a venture that would aggravate these challenges.

They insisted that the Deputy Senate President is serving the interests of his political god-fathers at the expense of his constituency and region.

They also hinted at the fact that he is bent on pushing for the passage of the bills due to self-aggrandizing promises that may have been made to him by his political god- fathers, pledging, however, that the youth and the entire northern political establishment would work and thwart this interest come 2027

“Northern Nigeria requires only the leaders who could speak in the interest of the region,” they declared, while assuring that they would also do everything within their powers to defeat the bills.
