Salute to Excellence
Cadet ASP Okoro Pretty Ginika’s emergence as the overall best graduate of the Regular Course RC 6, in academic and field studies from the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil in Kano State, did not come as a surprise to her because of her dogged determination to achieve same from the onset. But it was a rude shock to the leadership of the academy who never thought such a feat could be achieved by a young female chap from the eastern part of the country.
As it is customary with the Police elite institution, anyone who attains such remarkable record is handed the Sword of Honour upon graduation. But regrettably, ASP Okoro was denied the sword of honour by feudal forces for reasons not known to date. Merit was sacrificed on the guillotine, and that honour was given to her male counterpart from a northern State who didn’t achieve her feat.
This denial did not dampen the drive of ASP Okoro. In fact, it became a catalyst for her to further prove her mettle. To show that she was not a flash in the pan. She went on to the Nigeria Law School and graduated with First Class Honours and successfully passed the Bar Finals with Distinction.
In her own words: “My journey through the study of Law has been one defined by discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. From the early days of learning foundational principles from the Nigeria Police Academy to the demanding rigours of Law School, I remained guided by a clear purpose to not only succeed but to stand out.
“Graduating with a First Class Honours at the Nigerian Law School and successfully passing the Bar Finals with distinction represents more than academic achievement; it reflects consistency, sacrifice, and the courage to push beyond limits.
“This milestone is not just a personal victory, but a reminder that with focus, hard work, and integrity, excellence is attainable. I remain committed to upholding the values of the legal profession and contributing meaningfully to justice, service, and society.”
