The Wife of Delta Governor, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori, on Monday, doled out financial assistance to 50 petty traders from Uwheru Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The gesture was part of the humanitarian initiatives of her pet project, “You Matter Charity Foundation Market Outreach”.
The empowerment programme aimed to support small-scale businesses, especially those run by women and low-income traders across the state.
Oborevwori was represented at the event by the Coordinator of the foundation in Ughelli North, Mrs Joy Mariere.
She affirmed her commitment to supporting small-scale businesses to grow and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economic development.
She said that the empowerment, which was helping traders improve their businesses, was her own way of reciprocating the people’s goodwill towards the present administration.
She urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds to expand their ventures and become more financially independent.
Oborevwori emphasised the importance of having faith in Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s “MORE Agenda”, which focuses on delivering more infrastructure, social and economic programmes for the people of the state.
She urged traders, who had yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, to take advantage of the ongoing continuous voter registration to do so.
She described the exercise as a valid requirement for participating in governmental programmes and activities.
The governor’s wife said that the programme was strictly designed for indigent traders in local communities in the state.
She disclosed that the gesture would be extend to other communities within Ughelli North, including Otowodo, Aghara, Agbarho, Orogun, and Ughelli Main Markets.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 41 of the 50 traders shortlisted for the empowerment were present during the disbursement of the undisclosed amount.
Oborevwori advised the remaining nine beneficiaries to contact the Ughelli North coordinator of the foundation at a later date to collect theirs.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Christiana Etagbwdavbe, expressed gratitude to the governor’s wife for her benevolence and commitment to improving the lives of the rural women.
She assured her that the traders would utilise the funds efficiently to improve their livelihoods.
She pledged their continued support to the present administration.
